Weekend Bars

The weekend bathroom-safety kit for your parent’s house.

Weekend Bars is reader-supported. If you buy through links on this page, we may earn a commission. Most grab bars are not covered by Medicare; confirm with their plan. This is not medical advice.

Weekend Bars may earn on Amazon links. The Stander pole is sold on stander.com in this cart; we may earn nothing on that purchase.

Who this kit is for

You are the adult child. The shower at your parent’s house needs a handhold this weekend, and you cannot put a hole in the tile — landlord rule, rental lease, or you simply refuse to drill. That is the brief. No stud finder. No 1/8″ bit. No “just one small flange.”

This page is two honest products in one cart. Path A is a cheap suction balance-assist with the maker’s limits in plain English. Path B is a load-rated tub-to-ceiling pole when they need a weight number and you still cannot open the wall. Suction is not a screw-in grab bar. A pole is not a wall-mounted bar. Do not blur those lines.

Who should not buy this kit

Skip this page if any of these are true.

You can drill tile into wood and you want a screw-in bar. That is a different product. Shower Entry and Shower Better put holes in the wall. They are not the quiet upgrade from this page. Stay here until the no-holes rule changes.

You need full body weight support and only budgeted for the $9 suction bar. Safe-er-Grip’s own line is balance only. Buy the pole, wait for drill permission, or wait.

Thin fiberglass surround and you wanted suction: the maker says Safe-er-Grip will not work on fiberglass. This page does not sell a fiberglass install.

Tub is not an alcove with flat sides, rim outside Stander’s clamp range, or ceiling vaulted / outside 7–9 feet: the pole will not fit. Measure before you order.

What’s in the cart

Two paths. Prices dated Tue Sep 1, 2026. Amazon street for the suction bar. Stander.com for the pole — Amazon has a listing, but it is currently unavailable, so the pole price here is the maker’s site only.

What this kit assumes

Path A — Safe-er-Grip. In the maker’s words and the listing TIP: use only to assist and help balance; not to hold full body weight. Smooth, flat, non-porous surfaces only — tile, glass, acrylic, metal. Tile at least 4″ × 4″. Do not cover grout lines. Will not work on drywall, fiberglass, or marble tile. Cups about 3.75″ across; bar about 11.5″ long. If both cups cannot sit fully on smooth glaze with no grout under either pad, Path A fails on geometry before suction.

Path B — Stander Wonder Bathtub Pole 1120-W. 300 lb capacity. Clamp on the tub rim plus tension to a flat ceiling 7–9′ tall — no wall screws. Standard alcove tubs with flat sides. Rim 3–7″ wide and 13–21″ tall. Not for vaulted ceilings. Stander’s compare line: fixed to the bathtub, not the wall. Use two shower curtains, one on each side of the pole. Optional ceiling hard-mount hardware is in the box; not required for tension install.

Neither path is Install a grab bar on tile. That guide assumes a drill. This kit assumes you do not.

Suction ≠ screw-in. Pole ≠ wall bar.

A screw-in bar in a stud (or Moen SecureMount off-stud) is the wall product with a published weight number for that mount. Entry and Better are that family. They require holes.

Safe-er-Grip is suction with locking latches. Balance hold on the right surface. It fails on the wrong surface, soap film, small tile, grout, and full body weight. Check the latches every time before they step in.

The Wonder Bathtub Pole is steel: clamps the tub, tensions the ceiling, 300 lb when installed as specified. It still is not a flange on a stud. It needs the right tub and ceiling, takes rim space, and forces a two-curtain setup. Buy it for the rating without holes — not because it “feels like” a wall bar.

Which path to buy

Path A ($9.35) when: large smooth ceramic/porcelain (or glass/acrylic/metal), tiles ≥4″×4″, both cups clear of grout, and the job is a light balance hold for someone who will not load the bar with body weight. Clean, latch, firm tug by you — not a hang. Recheck every use.

Path B ($269.99 on stander.com) when: they need a published weight rating, you still cannot drill, and tub/ceiling match Stander’s sheet. Measure Friday. Order stander.com while Amazon B0C4QVRXVL stays out of stock. Assemble per the manual. Two curtains.

Neither when: small tile, marble, drywall, or fiberglass for suction; wrong tub or vaulted ceiling for the pole; or they need full-weight wall support and you can get drill permission. Then Entry or Better are a different product — not an upgrade CTA from here.

Order of work Saturday

Friday. Measure tile faces and grout gaps for Path A, or rim width/height and ceiling for Path B. Order one path, not both “just in case.”

Path A, Saturday, dry. Clean until it squeaks. Dry. Both cups on smooth faces — no grout under either pad. Latch. One firm tug. Note on the mirror: check before every shower. If it will not hold a firm tug on clean tile, stop. Do not stack a second suction bar and call it done.

Path B, Saturday. Clear the rim. Confirm flat ceiling in range. Clamp, tension, lock the rotating handle where their hand is. Two curtain rods outside the pole. Tug-test. Walk the first step-in while you are still there.

Leave it honest. Path A comes down when the visit ends or suction dies. Path B can stay without tile holes. If they later get drill permission, that is a new cart — Install a grab bar on tile plus Entry or Better — a different path, not a soft sell from this page.

Buy Path A: Safe-er-Grip 12″, B0130DAFDK at $9.35 (Sep 1, 2026). Buy Path B: Stander Wonder Bathtub Pole 1120-W at $269.99 on stander.com (Sep 1, 2026). Amazon ASIN B0C4QVRXVL exists but is currently unavailable; do not print an Amazon street price until a live buy box is verified.
